Reading the official unidentified light reports without losing your mind
A short, sourced orientation for people who want the real documents rather than the YouTube version.
- The 2021 preliminary assessment from the US Office of the Director of National Intelligence covered 144 reports from US government sources; most could not be characterized because of limited data, and one was identified as a deflating balloon.
- The All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) publishes annual reports and, in 2024, a historical record review covering 1945 onward. Its stated finding: no evidence that any case represented extraterrestrial technology; most resolved cases were ordinary objects and phenomena, and the rest lacked enough data to resolve.
- NASA's 2023 independent study team recommended better data collection and crowdsourcing, which is roughly what this site tries to do at a hobby scale.
Good habits when reading: separate what the document says from what a commentator says it implies; look for the resolution rate and the data gaps; notice how often "insufficient data" is the real answer. Post links to primary sources in this board, and label speculation as speculation.
