What "still unexplained" means here (and what it does not)
When no candidate scores 50% or more, the case is marked still unexplained. That is a statement about our data, not a claim about what it was.
Common reasons a real, ordinary object ends up unexplained:
- The time was off by more than 15 minutes, so the satellite pass fell outside the window.
- The object was a dim satellite not in our bright-object set, or a tumbling rocket body.
- It was an aircraft without a transponder (military, some small aircraft, most drones), which we cannot see.
- The report is older than two weeks, so we have no orbit data yet for that date.
- Not enough detail: no direction, no duration, no motion.
Common reasons a case stays unexplained even with good data: it genuinely is not in any catalog we can reach. Those are the interesting ones. Bring observations, not certainty, and ask what would change the numbers.
